Valley of Flowers, the most charming valley and national park in Chamoli District (in North Chamoli) is the pride of Uttarakhand tourism that stays open from June to October/November. It is famous for its meadow of endemic alpine flowers and a variety of flora and fauna. Here, you will also get a chance to have close encounter with endangered species of animals like Snow Leopard, Musk Deer, Brown Beer, Asiatic Black Bear and red fox. Blue sheep are commonly found here; while birds like Himalayan Monal pheasant and other high altitude birds with provide you a wonderful view.

Located at an altitude of 3350 to 3700 meters above sea level, Valley of Flowers complements the mountain wilderness of famous Nanda Devi National Park of East and encompasses a unique transition zone between the mountain ranges of Zanskar and Great Himalaya. The beautiful park that lures adventure and nature lovers is approx 8 km long and 2 km wide. Nanda Devi National Park Reserve that is surrounded by the gorgeous zone is in the category of UNESCO World Network of Biosphere Reserves. The beautiful valley is famous for having some of the best flowers like Brahmakamal, the Blue Poppy, Cobra lily and a lot more. It is a paradise for photographers, bird viewers, wildlife photographers, botanists, trekkers and flower lovers. The pleasant weather conditions make it ideal place for those who have fed up of city life.

How to Reach Valley of Flowers Uttarakhand

Jolly Grant Airport at the distance of 295 km is the nearest airport to reach Valley of Flower by Air. From airport, you can take a taxi or bus to Joshimath and them to Govindghat. From Govindghat, you have to cover 13 km distance through trekking. It is a narrow, steep and a well-managed mountain trail to base camp at Ghangaria. From Ghangaria, you have to cover 3 km distance to reach the valley.

This beautiful destination is nestled near Joshimath in the upper expanses of Bhyundar Ganga in Gharwal region. Earlier, it was called as Bhyundar Valley – located in the Chamoli District.

You need to cover trekking of around 17 km. Road connectivity from Dehradun and Haridwar is around 270 km to Joshimath.

Govindghat is a tiny hamlet type destination close to Joshimath from where trekking starts.

Valley of Flowers stays open from 1st June to October and November that depends on the weather conditions. Some of the most charming destinations that you will see near Valley of Flowers include Hemkund Lake, Hemkund Sahib and Ghangaria.
