Overview

Kedarnath and Badrinath are two of the most important pilgrimage destinations in India, situated in the state of Uttarakhand in the Himalayan region. A yatra, or pilgrimage, to Kedarnath and Badrinath is considered to be a sacred journey for Hindus, who believe that visiting these holy sites can lead to spiritual enlightenment and blessings from the deities. The yatra to Kedarnath and Badrinath typically begins from the city of Haridwar or Rishikesh, which are well-connected by road and rail to major cities in India. From Haridwar or Rishikesh, you can take a taxi or a bus to reach the town of Joshimath, which is the starting point for the Badrinath yatra.

The Badrinath yatra involves a 44-km trek from Joshimath to the Badrinath temple, which is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. The trek passes through beautiful mountain landscapes, rivers, and waterfalls, and takes around 2-3 days to complete. Along the way, you can also visit other important temples and shrines, such as the Bhavishya Badri temple, the Vridha Badri temple, and the Yogadhyan Badri temple. After visiting Badrinath, you can proceed to Kedarnath, which is located about 240 km from Badrinath. The Kedarnath yatra involves a 16-km trek from the town of Gaurikund to the Kedarnath temple, which is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The trek passes through steep mountain paths and beautiful scenery, and takes around 6-8 hours to complete. You can also visit other important temples and shrines, such as the Triyuginarayan temple and the Gaurikund temple, along the way.

It’s important to note that the yatra to Kedarnath and Badrinath is only open during the summer months, from May to October, as the region receives heavy snowfall during the winter months. It’s also important to be physically fit and mentally prepared for the yatra, as the trek involves steep climbs and difficult terrain. Overall, the Kedarnath and Badrinath yatra is a unique and unforgettable experience that can help you connect with your spiritual side and immerse yourself in the natural beauty of the Himalayan region.
